Helping women decide what deserves their time, energy, money, and care when life hasn't gone according to plan.
Building Financial Self-Trust
Knowing the numbers doesn't always tell you what to do.
You can understand your financial situation, have good information, and still face a decision without an obvious answer.
Save or pay down debt? Stay or sell? Help someone financially or say no? Spend the money now or preserve it for later? Choose the safer option or accept more risk?
Building Financial Self-Trust is an eight-week guided experience for learning a practical process you can use to work through financial decisions when the answer isn't automatic.
You'll learn to work with what you know, recognize what is influencing your thinking, consider your actual options, examine likely consequences, and make a decision you can explain and stand behind.
The final week is a private one-on-one session where you'll use the process with a financial decision of your own.
The goal isn't to always make the right decision. It's to know how to make a decision that is YOURS.
Building Financial Self-Trust may be a good fit for you if...
-
You can gather financial information, but the information doesn't always make the decision obvious.
-
You find yourself second-guessing financial decisions even after you've thought them through.
-
You have several reasonable options and aren't sure how to weigh them.
-
Other people's opinions, expectations, or advice make it harder to determine what you think.
-
You sometimes wait for certainty before making a financial decision.
-
You want to understand how feelings, beliefs, values, responsibilities, and circumstances influence your financial choices without allowing any one of them to make the decision for you.
-
You want a process you can use for future financial decisions not just this one time.
You don't need to become certain about every financial decision. You need a reliable way to make one.
In this session you will learn how to...
Working with your financial situation, you'll learn how to:
-
Separate what you know to be true from what you may have added to what you know.
-
Notice the thoughts and influences shaping how you see the situation.
-
Recognize the beliefs, values, expectations, emotions, responsibilities, and outside influences shaping how you see a decision.
-
Identify the real constraints that limit your choices without assuming they eliminate all of them.
-
Generate and consider options you may not have seen at first.
-
Examine the likely results and tradeoffs of the choices you're considering.
-
Make a decision without requiring complete certainty.
-
Notice what you are likely to do—or not do—after the decision and where those actions may lead.
-
Bring the pieces together into a practical process you can use again in any situation for any decision.
Self-trust doesn't require knowing that the decision is 100% right.
It's trusting that the decision is right for what you know.
Inside Building Financial Self-Trust
Building Financial Self-Trust is organized around seven weeks of guided practice followed by a private session where you'll use the complete process with a financial decision of your own.
Week 1 — What Do You Know?
Start with the situation itself. Separate facts from assumptions, interpretations, predictions, and things you don't yet know.
Week 2 — What Are You Thinking?
Identify the beliefs, values, expectations, and experiences that may be shaping how you see the decision.
Week 3 — What Is Influencing You?
Identify the emotions, responsibilities, and outside voices that may be shaping how you see the decision.
Week 4 — What Are Your Options?
Generate possible choices and examine the constraints that make some options more or less available.
Consider likely results, consequences, and tradeoffs without pretending you can predict the future with certainty.
Make a provisional choice and examine the reasoning behind it. Determine whether you can stand behind that reasoning or whether something still needs attention.
Week 5 — Checking In With Your Heart and Gut
Distinguish an emotion from a thought, prediction, judgment, or physical sensation, then allow an emotion to provide information without making the decision for you.
Week 6 —Likely Actions, Consequences, and Result
Given the choice, your thoughts about the choice, and your emotions, what are you actually likely to do—or not do, and what might be the consequences and result?
Week 7 — Put the Process Together
Using what you now know, bring it all together in a simple process you can use in any situation.
Week 8 — Private Decision Session
Meet one-on-one and use the process with any financial decision. You'll leave knowing the decision is yours, with a clear understanding of your options, a heart and gut check for validation, and a prediction of what you are likely to do, not do, the consequences and a result. You'll be able to trust that the decision you are making is the right one for for you with what you know at this time.
